It is with great pleasure that the new development is nearing its completion for early May 2009.

The plan is for an additional 19 over sized guest bedrooms consisting of 1 Suite, 3 Junior suites, 4 Duplex guest rooms (on 2 levels) and 11 guest rooms reflecting the increasing demand for accommodation on the Causeway Coast. This will bring the total complement of bedrooms at the Bushmills Inn to 41. The development will also incorporate a new reception hall, a ‘Garden Room’ extension to the Restaurant and the conversion of the 10 original Coaching Inn rooms to two new executive conference rooms and staff accommodation.

Turkington Magowan Partnership, the Belfast firm of architects were selected based on their experience of restoration of listed buildings and have been entrusted with the difficult task of ensuring that the new development will complement the unique character of the original inn and enhance its inherent authenticity and charm. Alan & Zoe Dunlop, the present day owners’ explain “There is a recognised need for up scale accommodation on the North Coast and this project will allow the hotel to advance to a Four Star property. Our overriding objective with the new development is maintaining the ‘living museum of Ulster hospitality’ theme so successfully introduced with the 1988 restoration of the original Coaching Inn and enhanced with the Mill House extension in 1998. Colin Magowan, Partner with Turkington Magowan adds “We are delighted with the opportunity to lead the next stage of development for this legendary hotel. We fully appreciate our very detailed brief and the need to advance the hotel to world class standards while retaining the authentic and understated feel of genuine local hospitality so successfully achieved.” The nominated builders for the development are Taggart’s and Sons of Ballymoney who were carefully chosen for their professionalism and reputation on similar projects. The development will be completed by the end of March 2009, but until then, we will be open as usual.
